In 2023, in the face of the increasingly visible evidence of a climate emergency, St. Giles Hotels committed to a bold objective not only to reduce carbon emissions to Net Zero by 2040, but also to a moonshot goal to reach Net Positive by 2050.
This means that we aim to remove more carbon from the atmosphere than we emit, and to reduce our landfill waste to zero by 2050. These goals are notoriously difficult, but getting close to them supports our dream of being responsible stewards of the planet, and making the world better for our being in it.
To achieve Net Zero, we have committed to reducing our carbon (and equivalent) emissions steadily and incrementally, to cut our 2023 levels emissions in half by 2030 and to achieve effective Net Zero by 2040.
We also commit to reducing our landfill, with a goal of reaching zero landfill by 2050. Net Positive, on the other hand, means that not only do we stop being net polluters, we also take out carbon from the atmosphere.

#CITIZENG – United to be Globally Green
Our sustainable programme, CITIZEN G, was launched in 2018 to support our mission to be responsible citizens – for our planet, our community and our guests, by making their stay more sustainable. The goal of #CitizenG is to reduce our negative impact on the environment and to become more sustainable throughout our operations, while continuing to uphold our high standards of guest service.
